About Storage Planner
Storage Planner is a free tool for planning a closet in 3D and turning the plan into something you can build from: a drawing with the dimensions on it, a cut list, cutting diagrams and a shopping list.
Most closet design tools online belong to a company that sells closets. They work well for that company's products and they end at a cart or a quote request. This one doesn't sell anything, so it doesn't matter where you buy your wood.
Who it's for
People building their own closet from plywood, melamine or MDF. It's also handy if you just want to try out a few layouts before calling a closet company, or to show a carpenter what you have in mind.
How the numbers are worked out
Every number comes from your layout using a few fixed rules, listed in the PDF's build notes: a 1/8" saw cut between parts on a sheet, adjustable shelves 1/16" narrower than their section, inset drawer faces with a 1/16" gap, and drawer boxes sized for side-mount slides. The worked example on the main page was calculated by hand and compared to what the tool produces, and that check runs again whenever the code changes.
It's still a planning tool, not an engineer or a carpenter. It can't see your walls, so measure carefully and check the plan against your space before you cut.
How it stays free
